Son of Frederick James and Lydia Florence Steadman of 31, Woodville Rd., Walthamstow, Essex.

Edward Alfred Steadman was born in 1893 at Walthamstow. On the 1911 Census he is listed as being a Clerk at a Stockbrokers. He enlisted in London (Walthamstow) and first served overseas in France from 31 July 1915. The Somme campaign was the 10th's first major action and he was killed in action on 12 July 1916 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Steadman is further entitled to a 1914-15 Star.

The 10th (Service) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (Stockbrokers) (10th RF) was an infantry unit of 'Kitchener's Army' in World War I. Recruited from the financial community of the City of London it was the original 'Pals battalion'. It served on the Western Front from July 1915 until the Armistice, seeing action at the Somme and the Ancre, at Arras and Ypres, against the German spring offensive, and in the final Hundred Days Offensive.

The medals are EF with short ribbons, and are scarce to this unit.
