BWM & victory medal correctly impressed to 156735 GNR. H.S. PARKES. R.A.
Henry Stratford Parkes, of Poplar, East London, was 25 when he attested in April 1917. He saw his overseas service with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, in Salonica and Constantinople. These medals come with 24 copied pages of research, to include personal history and military service, including a card of inquiry from his mother asking for information regarding her son who was with '39th Brigade, Army of the Black Sea, because it was a month since they had heard tidings of him'. Henry did return to civilian life and was married in 1921.
