Edgar Burden, born in the parish of St Clements, Oxford, attested for The Coldstream Guards on 14th November 1898, and served in the Boer War, his medal entitlement confirmed.

He disembarked for the western Front on 7/10/1914 (C Company) He would have been involved in the fighting at the first battle of Ypres and was probably captured before the end of 1914.

He was listed as "Prisoner of War" on the Casualty List issued by the War Office from 17/04/1915

16/03/1918. Prisoner of war in Germany, (Hamelin), arrived in Holland for internment.

17/12/1918. Released Prisoner of War from Germany, arrived in England.

Although being a P.O.W. would have been a harsh experience, he survived the war.

The South Africa medals grade fine, with some wear to the naming, although it is all complete and bold. The swivel suspensions are a little worn and loose, but undamaged. The first war medals grade very fine. The ribbons are original and a little tatty and faded. The clasp and rosettes on the star are original.

Overall a good untouched group with scope for further research.
