Henry Earwicker was born at Alverstoke, Hampshire on 4th December 1858 and enlisted as Boy Class II on 7 May 1874 with the number 86513. Reaching his majority with Audacious in 1876 he was posted as Leading Seaman to Minotaur in 1882. Advanced 2nd Captain of the Forecastle on 20 June 1882 he was still in this rank on the outbreak of the Anglo-Egyptian War. Minotaur played a minor role in this conflict, giving her crew entitlement to the campaign awards. Earwicker was advanced Captain of the Forecastle after the conflict on 20 December 1883 and invalided on 8 August 1885; sold together with copied research including a reproduced photograph of Minotaur, medal roll and service papers.
