Joseph Walker Gordon was born in 1896 in Blackpool to parents James and Maggie.
He arrived in France on 28th October 1914, serving as a volunteer orderly with The British Red Cross Society & The Order of The Knights of St John, based at Boulogne unit No 5. In 1916 he transferred to the military via the RAMC and ended the war in the RAF. His civilian trade was noted as 'Engineer'
