British War Medal 1914-20 (Lieut. G. H. Brown.), contact wear and edge bruising, very fine

Geoffrey Hubert Brown was born at Barry, Glamorgan on 5 January 1896, the son of Charles and Olive Brown of Halstead, Colcot Road, Barry. Educated at Barry County School he became a Bank Clerk and joined the Territorials on 23 November 1915, being immediately posted to the Inns of Court Officer Training School. The next year Brown joined No. 8 Officer Cadet Battalion at Lichfield from 4 August 1916 until 21 November 1916 before he was Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 3rd Battalion Welsh Regiment on 5 December.

Entering the War in France attached to the 15th Battalion, Welsh Regiment he served with them until 23 February 1917 when he received a shrapnel wound to the right buttock and was forced home for convalescence. Returning to France Brown served attached to 2nd Battalion, Welsh Regiment and was killed in action on 23 October 1918, he is buried at the Highland Cemetery, Le Cateau; sold together with copied research including M.I.C., medical reports and burial details as well as the recipient's application for commission, Commonwealth War Graves information and an extract from The Hungry One by C. P. Clayton, M.C.
