Samuel Gooch was born in 1891 and enlisted with the 2nd/10th Battalion, Manchester Regiment on 24 November 1915 for service in the Great War. He was reported wounded on 20/11/1917, most likely during the Passchendaele campaign. Discharged on 10 April 1918, with the reason noted as Gunshot wound to the head, he returned home to Ardwick Manchester; sold together with a tatty original, named box of issue. He is also entitled to a Silver War badge.
